Religion, Label, or a Relationship?

When someone says the word Christian, what's the first thing that comes to your mind? Most would say a religion. Others would say someone who is a good person and sacrifices their needs and wants to help others. But what does the word or being a Christian really mean. This subject has been preached on for a millennium. Some have explained it spot on while others have just missed the dot completely. I'm here to hopefully shed some light on the subject and maybe it will help you strengthen your walk with God.

Before I can go into explaining this subject I first must explain one minor detail. What does it mean to believe in something and what does it mean to have faith. Believing is simply to have confidence in either the truth or the existence of someone or something. Any person will tell you that they believe in someone or something, most of the time however, they'll tell you that so they can control and ultimately use you for their own desires and needs. To have faith though is something far more real and truthful, and honest. Having faith is to have a strong unshakeable belief in someone or something. To have faith in a person or God in general, is what very few of us can say they have.

Now "being a Christian" is a phrase that most of us has heard all of are lives. This phrase is far from being accurate. There's no way anyone can "be" a Christian. Christian's aren't a group of people or a religion. That word was pretty much a tool for the world to label us so we can be ridiculed and spat on because of who we represent. Christians is someone who has a true, and honest relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

You maybe wondering what does it take to be have that relationship. It takes 3 very excruciating and life altering steps. The first step is of full and true repentance, of all of your past and present sins. In doing so you have paved the way for Christ to come in to your life, but he can't come just yet. The second step is saying the sinner's prayer. Which you can either use from the bible or a preacher will tell you the words and you repeat them to the Lord. Or you can say what is on your heart and feel the meaning of your words after this is done. Christ has written your name in the book of life. The final and hardest step to do is keeping the faith in your relationship with him. You have to believe in Him with all of your heart and soul.  You have to know that He's here with you and no matter what obstacles in Your life comes against you, He will guide you through them and will make you a stronger and better person.
